how we started

“After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.”

2 and 2 Possibles started as two friends, Christie Stewart and Regina Swint, who met while working at Fort Knox, Kentucky, who recognized the abundance of our own blessings, and who wanted to bless others. We discovered that we share a love to cook, to enjoy good food, and to feed people; and we love God. Our service in 2 and 2 Possibles helps us to be obedient, reminds us to be grateful, and allows us to actively engage in meeting a persisting need within our community.
When we created the name, 2 and 2 Possibles, the first "2" referred to ourselves, and the second "2" to the children as our two "possibles," a term commonly used in a familiar card game played in college dorms, military barracks, and at social gatherings. When bidding for books, the first number refers to sureties, and the second number refers to possibilities that could be won over, if in the right hands. We signed up as a small group in November 2017, to serve a lunch meal to the guests of the Louisville Rescue Mission (later Re:Center Ministries).
We arrived and on site in December 2017, shortly after 9:00am, two eager and earnest servants, and were given full control of the commercial kitchen, located in the basement of the building,
ably assisted by our two youngest volunteers, Christie's granddaughters (who started at five and six years old), and by Dave, one of the guests who was on kitchen duty that day, who the children respectfully addressed as "Mr. Dave." Our early goals included teaching the girls some of the creativity and joy in cooking, as well as cheerful giving, food safety, and cleanliness, also guiding them in how to demonstrate compassion and respect; the ideal, that in our hands, they would be encouraged and inspired to become servant leaders themselves.
By 12:30pm, we served spaghetti with meat sauce, fresh green salad, assorted fresh fruit, garlic bread, and lemonade. We served only15 guests that day. Due to our inexperience with serving small groups, and due to our own personal experiences of meal service in the Army, for that first meal, we brought way too much food, enough to feed a full platoon of soldiers, but we learned early on that we'd rather have too much food than not enough to go around. Whenever we have extra, we leave it at the site.
So, that's our story. We came, we cooked, we served, we prayed, we ate, we fellowshipped. We stayed to assist with cleanup, and concluded our day around 1:30pm. We were so warmly embraced by the staff, who are local seminary students, and especially by the guests, who live on site. We immediately signed on to become regular volunteers, serving lunch meals every third Saturday of the month, established our routine of arriving early, staying through lunch, and fellowshipping and praying with the guests, and assisting with cleanup. During one of our lunchtime fellowships, Jason, a guest at
Re:Center, compared us to the biblical references of the disciples who Christ sent two by two out into the world. And just like that, 2 and 2 Possibles received its affirmation as laborers working toward the great harvest, two by two.
Possibly our greatest early lesson in this ministry was that good food, made with love, and served from the heart, has a way of ministering to and healing the body, the mind, and the spirit of burdened and broken human souls. We found that our gifts lie in our common love of sharing that food. We lead with a good meal, and follow through with genuine conversations, a few words of encouragement, and heartfelt prayers.
In March 2020, we established 2 and 2 Possibles, Incorporated as a non-profit organization. We are blessed to serve the lunch meal on third Saturdays, and with the assistance of other individuals, small businesses, and service organizations, including members of Louisville-based IDIG, LLC, and the Fort Knox Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; but since March 2020, due to restrictions of COVID-19, we have been confined to preparing the meals from our own homes, delivering to the site, fellowshipping with some of the guests outside the facility, with a respectable amount of social distance, and then departing. Several of our volunteers, including one of our founding members, have been reassigned by military orders, where they continue community outreach services in the name of 2 and 2 Possibles, in the name of Jesus Christ, and continuing to give all glory to God for the honor and privilege.
We are registered by the State of Kentucky as a nonprofit, and as a federally tax-exempt 501(c) 3 public charity, by the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service. We are continuing our ministry in Louisville, and also in other locations, wherever the Army takes our volunteers and their families.

As President, Christie proposes and clarifies organizational goals, purpose, and mission, coordinates volunteers and member activities, and leads and adjourns board meetings.

Serving Joyously!

We are 100% volunteer servant leaders. We take no salary. Thus far, we have funded this ministry from our own personal resources, and with the generous donations of others who believe in our mission to feed those who are underserved, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. All contributions go directly to these efforts.
We have been blessed with the support of various community members, including families with young children, as well as small business owners, local farmers, and butchers, and grocers, who have donated time, food, and clothing.

2 and 2 Possibles has also supported other programs and nonprofit organizations across Louisville, and we plan to expand our ministry to include other chapters of servant leaders in other communities, as opportunities present.
Through this ministry, the adults have enjoyed participating in the service, while mentoring and encouraging the children in living examples of what servant leadership looks like.
